DUSZA is a makerspace for the people of Winona, Minnesota to enhance community involvement within the arts. WINONArts wants the establishment to create a focused yet creative space for makers seeking a collaborative environment. The space is to feel organic while emitting a brooding, thoughtful aesthetic. An industrial, yet eclectic look is to grace patrons and users of the space.

The design of the makerspace allows for enclosed studio space while encouraging collaboration through many open work areas between floors. Circulation from the lobby through the main floor flows around reception desk, directing visitors to the flanking studios to the monumental staircase and collaborative retail at the underside of the stair. Brick, dark green and black accents pull in an industrial look while the main paint and fauna elements keep the space open and organic. The space also includes design embellishments to pay homage to the large Polish history of the city.

DUSZA caters to the makers; artisans, craftsman, and digital artists, and the like, providing a studio space for creative expression and marketing. The concentrations that inhabit DUSZA include candle making, digital design, woodworking, and painting. An open studio area will be incorporated to accommodate for those who desire a studio space that DUSZA doesn’t offer through its specialties.
The company has a commitment to community involvement for the entire community; the youth, the elderly, and everyone in between. DUSZA will offer an after school program three days a week with the support of grant funding to minimize cost for users of this program. The makerspace also has a loyalty to the senior community, allowing for continued practices of hobbies that may have been set aside years ago.
